Installing the Insight® JVA 5.0 Client

Purpose:
The following will be a short explanation of how to install the Insight® JVA Client on your machine locally.

Quick Note:
If you do not wish to have software installed on your machine please feel free to use the Browser version of Insight® which works through either Internet Explorer or Netscape/Mozilla. Please note the Browser version is not as fully-featured as the Insight® JVA Client is. The Browser version is located at:

http://lunaproject.rutgers.edu:9080/BrowserInsight/BrowserInsight?cmd=start

The browser has not been fully developed yet and only a few collections are available through this feature. All collections are available through the JVA Client.

Installation:

Please go to the following URL to begin the installation:

http://lunaproject.rutgers.edu:8082/servlet/deploy/Insight/launch

Make sure to bookmark this URL for future launching of the Insight® JVA 5.0 Client. To access Rutgers Universities public collection use the following login information:

Username: public        Password: luna

Depending on whether you are using Internet Explorer or Netscape you will receive different authentication messages. Also, if you have a previous version of the Insight® JVA Client installed this will update the software if needed.

Authentication Messages

If you see a popup dialog requesting permission to add, delete, or modify files on your computer, you must grant permission for these actions (either by clicking Grant or Yes as appropriate) for Insight to be installed

The installation program will determine what components you need installed and will install the most current ones. A series of screens will pass showing what is being downloaded and installed. It is hard to determine how long this will take but if you are on the University network expect downloading and installation to take less than 3 minutes. From a cable/DSL modem expect a download and installation time of around 5 to 8 minutes. If you are using a 56k/dialup modem expect this download and installation to take upwards of 95 minutes.

When complete the Insight® JVA Client will launch itself. There will now be an icon on your Desktop labeled "Insight" for launching Insight in the future. The program has been installed in C:\Program Files\LunaImaging\ on your PC locally.

It is recommended that you always start the Insight® JVA 5.0 Client using the following link: http://lunaproject.rutgers.edu:8082/servlet/deploy/Insight/launch

This will allow for any updates issued to be automatically installed keeping the client version up-to-date.

If the client does not automatically start click on Launch Application to manually start it.

Added Support For Video, Audio and QuickTime Objects

In order to have the added functionality of playing multimedia objects in Luna you must have Apple QuickTime installed with the following components:

- QuickTime for Java (Required for Insight Media Playback)
- QuickTime Essentials (Default QuickTime Components)
- QuickTime Internet Extras (Required for QuickTime VR Support)

You can download QuickTime from Apple at:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Make sure that you select the components listed above.

Luna Imaging also has an explanation for installing QuickTime for Java at:
